This is how I went to Singapore and landed a job. Hope this tip will help my fellow Filipinos.
October 25, 2008. Everything is set and all I had to do was go to the airport and leave Philippines. There I was at NAIA Terminal 3 waiting for my flight. The last stop: immigration. This is the place where everything got pretty messed up. This girl told me that I cannot continue unless someone in Singapore would send a fax that they would take care of me while I'm there and make sure that I don't apply for a job. That sucks.
So after all those messed up things, I eventually missed the flight and went back home with a frown on my face. A few days after, I went back. Now, I'm equipped with the following and PLEASE TAKE NOTE (for those who are planning to come to Singapore).
1. Invitation letter from someone you know who is currently working/living in SG.
2. Return ticket of NO LATER THAN 2 weeks of stay in SG. This is because they will suspect that you are only going to Singapore just to look for a job. Well, you really are going to look for a job but you DO NOT NEED TO TELL THE IMMIGRATION ABOUT IT. Workaround for this is just get a ticket for let's say 7 days AND just re-book when you are already in Singapore.
3. Leave form from your current company and please bring your company ID.
4. Do NOT bring money that would amount to more than 10,000 Singapore dollars.
5. Well, bring at least 3-4,000 SGD to survive for 3 months without any salary.
So, November 1: Touchdown. I'm in Singapore. In my next post, I will tell you some tips on how I applied for a job.
